Vision

Summit Health Institute for Research and Education, Inc. (SHIRE) is guided by a vision of a nation where health care is a right, fully implemented, and where individuals and communities are empowered to achieve and sustain optimal health and well-being.

Mission

SHIRE works to eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities as a reflection of our commitment to equity, fairness and social justice. We also seek universal coverage and access for all residents of the United States. SHIRE supports communities, government agencies, foundations, corporations and other institutions that address health disparities and work to maximize access to health care. SHIRE builds linkages among stakeholders, in which communities of color play key roles in developing policies and promoting effective strategies for eliminating gaps.

Our Goals

SHIRE's goals are to:

1. Serve as a trusted source of information and analysis on racial and ethnic health disparities for communities, government agencies, educational institutions, corporations and foundations.

2.  Raise awareness of the implications of health care policies on communities of color among policymakers, health care leaders, and the public.

3. Inform the public policy debate by educating stakeholders and decision makers on the impact of racial and ethnic health disparities on the health of our nation and promote effective strategies for eliminating the gap.

4. Provide technical assistance and consulting to allied organizations and individuals working to eliminate health disparities, promote the health outcomes of communities of color, and take charge of their own health.

5. Serve as a catalyst and convener by bringing together people of different cultures, disciplines and communities to learn from one another and take collective action to advance the positive health outcomes for communities of color.
